Courses - Certified Nurse Assistant/Home Health Aide
A Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) is an entry-level
health professional who works under the
supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or
a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide
patient care primarily in long-term care settings.
Job Outlook
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics,
the overall demand for nursing, psychiatric,
and home health aides is projected to grow much
faster than the average rate for all occupations.
Modern technological advancements have enabled
people to live longer. The resulting growing
number of elderly Americans is driving
the need for long-term care provided
by CNA/Home Health Aides.
What does the CNA/HHA do?Some of the typical tasks provided by CNAs include taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rate; keeping patient records in terms of food/fluid intake and output; assisting patients with grooming and personal hygiene; obtaining food trays and assisting residents with feeding; and working with residents on range-of- motion exercises and movements.
The Home Health Aide (HHA) provides personal care in the client's home environment. In general, most CNAs are employed in long-term patient care facilities; CNAs also provide home health care, and work in hospitals and other medical facilities.
